Implant Supported Dentures for Convenience

Patients who are unsatisfied with their traditional dentures may be good candidates for implant supported dentures, which are anchored by titanium posts that have fused with your jawbone, to which the implants are snapped into place, unlike traditional dentures which rest on the gums. Implant supported dentures can come in the form of a fixed implant or as a removable denture, which can be taken out and cleaned on a nightly basis. Implant supported dentures are an effective solution for many patients, however, certain factors such as heart or other health issues may preclude patients from pursuing this treatment option. Patients who have experienced significant jawbone loss may also be ineligible, however a bone graft can make it possible for implant supported dentures to be placed in the future.

From regular periodontal maintenance to repairing, correcting, and preventing periodontal disease, including the placement of dental implants, we are proud to provide you with the highest quality dental care available in a comfortable environment. We are also committed to ensuring you know as much as possible about your oral health so you can make important, informed decisions regarding your oral health and treatment options. Implant Supported Denture Process

Prior to having implant supported dentures placed, an initial consultation will be necessary to determine if you are a viable candidate. This will include an examination of your jawbone to ensure it has the strength and structural integrity to support an implant supported denture. If it is determined that this is the optimal approach for you, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled. On the day of the procedure, we will answer any questions you have and make sure you are comfortable. Next, we will administer a local anesthetic (and dental sedation if necessary) to ensure that any pain or discomfort is minimized or eliminated.

Once you are sufficiently numbed, if necessary, any decayed teeth are removed and the area cleaned. Next, a titanium post is strategically placed into your jawbone in a manner that ensures optimal support to anchor your dentures. Once this post is in place, it will take approximately three to four months for the jawbone cells to attach to the titanium post (osseointegration). A temporary set of dentures will be provided during this healing process. At your return visit, we will examine the posts to ensure they can adequately support the denture. If so, your denture is attached and examined for proper bite.

Caring for Your Implant Supported Dentures

To reduce the risk of complications and enjoy a speedy recovery, it is essential to closely follow post-operative instructions. If you are prescribed antibiotics and/or pain relief medication, follow the recommended dose until the prescription runs out. It is also common to experience swelling and soreness as well as mild bleeding, all of which should go away over time

Once you have completed the healing process, the most effective way to ensure the longevity of your implant supported dentures and prevent similar issues from developing in the future is to maintain good oral hygiene. Remove the appliance and clean the attachments, teeth, and gums on a regular basis. In addition to brushing twice daily (minimum) and flossing on a regular basis, it is equally important to brush and floss properly. Every time you brush, do so for at least two minutes. Once you are done, clean your toothbrush. It is also important to replace your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles become irregular or flay.

Along with following good self-care, it is also important to schedule regular checkups with your periodontist at least every six months. These regular appointments allow us to conduct a professional cleaning that will remove plaque and tartar that cannot be removed using traditional methods, and provide us with an opportunity to survey your current oral health and identity and address issues before they develop. It also allows us to monitor the fit of your implants and make adjustments if necessary.

If you follow these best practices, you will maximize the longevity of your implant supported dentures and enjoy a bright, healthy smile for many years to come!

Cost of Implant Supported Dentures

The cost of implant supported dentures will be determined by a variety of factors, including what (if any) type of dental sedation is used, the severity of your case, the number of visits required to complete the procedure, what type of material is used, and how much (if any) of the cost is covered by your dental insurance plan. We are happy to help you file your claim and ensure that you maximize your insurance reimbursement, but any remaining balance will be your responsibility.

If you are not able to pay the full amount due at the time services are rendered, the following financial options may be available:

  • Care Credit: 0% interest for (maximum) three months (Our office pays a fee to keep this interest loan free for three months, provided the bill is paid on time)
  • 0% interest for pre-authorized debit/credit card for (maximum) four months (Agreement must be signed beforehand)
  • Most credit card companies provide interest-free credit for one year to new cardholders.

We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.
