Laser Gum Surgery & Treatment for Periodontal Disease

Laser gum surgery and treatment is a method of treating periodontal disease with the use of a laser in a manner that is efficient and painless. A unique benefit to using a laser is the accuracy it provides in targeting and removing bacteria without harming surrounding healthy tissue. This also results in a much faster healing process and minimizes discomfort for the patient. Laser gum surgery and treatment is also effective in preserving teeth that are not treatable through conventional methods and would otherwise be lost.

Additional benefits to laser gum surgery and treatment include:

  • Reduces need for anesthesia
  • Reduces patient anxiety
  • Minimizes swelling
  • Instantly stops bleeding of gums
  • Allows dentist to adjust power levels and wavelengths to meet the unique needs of the patient
  • Regenerates bone tissue and ligament
  • Minimizes the risk of a bacterial infection developing

From regular periodontal maintenance to repairing, correcting, and preventing periodontal disease, including the placement of dental implants, we are proud to provide you with the highest quality dental care available in a comfortable environment. Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment Process

Prior to having the procedure performed, an initial consultation will be necessary to determine if laser gum surgery and treatment is the best option for your unique needs. If it is determined that it is the optimal approach for you, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled. On the day of the procedure, we will answer any questions you have and make sure you are comfortable. Next, we will administer a local anesthetic and dental sedation if necessary to ensure that any pain or discomfort is minimized or eliminated.

Once you are sufficiently numbed/sedated, a tiny fiber is inserted into the pocket of the gum and the bacteria and infected tissue are killed. Next, the infected tissue is removed, the root is exposed, and an ultrasonic root cleaner is used to remove the calculus that has formed. Finally, the laser warms the stem cells within the pocket, which will cause tissue to seal the root of the tooth.

Once this is done, your procedure will be complete!

Aftercare Following Laser Gum Surgery and Treatment

Fortunately, you will typically not have to follow any special aftercare modifications following your procedure; however, it is important that you take proactive steps to ensure that you will not require similar procedures in the future. The most effective way to ensure the longevity of your oral health and prevent similar issues from developing in the future is to maintain good oral hygiene. In addition to brushing twice daily (minimum) and flossing on a regular basis, it is equally important to brush and floss properly. Every time you brush, do so for at least two minutes. Once you are done, clean your toothbrush. It is also important to replace your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles become irregular or flay.

It is also important to schedule regular checkups with your periodontist at least every six months. These regular appointments allow us to conduct a professional cleaning that will remove plaque and tartar that cannot be removed using traditional methods, and provide us with an opportunity to survey your current oral health and identity and address issues before they develop.

If you follow these best practices, you will enjoy a bright, healthy smile for many years to come!

Cost of Laser Gum Surgery

The cost of your procedure will be determined by a variety of factors, including what (if any) type of dental sedation is used and how much (if any) of the cost is covered by your dental insurance plan. We are happy to help you file your claim and ensure that you maximize your insurance reimbursement, but any remaining balance will be your responsibility.

If you are not able to pay the full amount due at the time services are rendered, the following financial options may be available:

  • Care Credit: 0% interest for (maximum) three months (Our office pays a fee to keep this interest loan free for three months, provided the bill is paid on time)
  • 0% interest for pre-authorized debit/credit card for (maximum) four months (Agreement must be signed beforehand)
  • Most credit card companies provide interest-free credit for one year to new cardholders.

We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.
